The Junior Class is selling Class T-shirts as a fundraiser.  Each t-shirt is only $15 and will be available for the Classes of 2010 through 2013.

Pre-Order forms will be distributed during Advisement on Friday, March 5.  Orders with payment (cash or check only) will be accepted during all lunch periods on Wednesday, March 10 and Thursday, March 11.   Juniors:  Sell FIVE shirts and this will satisfy the Class Dues fee.

Seniors can order caps and gowns during all lunch periods on Wednesday, March 10.  Representatives from H & R Campus Supply are returning to Riverwood for the last time this semester and will be in the cafeteria.  The cap and gown fee is $85. The 2010 Junior-Senior Prom will be on Saturday, March 20th from 8 to 11pm at TWELVE Atlantic Station.  The hotel address is 361 17th Street NW, Atlanta, 30363  Tickets will be on sale at school during all lunch periods the week prior to the Prom (from Monday, March 15 through Friday, March 19)

The Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education recognized Riverwood, along with 14 other Georgia high schools, for having an 85%, or greater, graduation rate in 2008 and also for improving graduation rates by at least ten percentage points over the past five years.  Riverwood's 91.8% graduation rate for the Class of 2008 is an increase of 15.4% over the Class of 2003 results.  Furthermore, Riverwood's class of 2009 had a 92.9% graduation rate.

CONGRATULATIONS to Senior Hamilton Stockton for wrestling in the State Championships on Saturday, February 20 at the Gwinnett Arena.  Hamilton brought home the Silver Medal in the 145lb weight class.   Want to see Hamilton's Championship match?  GHSA.tv has archived video of the championship bout for all 14 weight classes.

For the third consecutive year, Riverwood is an AP Merit School.  The 2010 AP Merit distinction recognizes schools having at least 20 percent of the student body taking Advanced Placement exams and with at least half of those exams receiving a score of 3 or higher.  Based on the results of the 2008-2009 AP classes and exams, Riverwood was one of only eight Fulton County high schools to received this designation.  Congratulations to the students and the teachers for this outstanding accomplishment!

Congratulations to Seniors Jasmine Burton and Alex Kessler upon being named Georgia Tech Presidential Scholars.  The President's Scholarship is Georgia Tech's premier merit-based award, offered to approximately 110 outstanding entering freshmen who demonstrate superb leadership skills, are among the top few in their class in academic performance, and show promise of continuing such performance in college and beyond.

Michael Cohen, Rachel Niederhoffer, Victoria Shaw and Julian Shutzberg named 2010 National Merit Finalists -- Congratulations!

All four semi-finalists from Riverwood fulfilled the requirements and advanced to the next round as finalists.  National Merit Scholars will be announced in the spring.

The 2010 Region Leadership Conference, held January 28 at Milton High School, was another great success for the Riverwood FBLA Chapter with more than ten students bringing home awards.

Does your home have natural gas service?  If so, enrolling in the TrueBlue School program will raise money for Riverwood and may actually save you money, too.  During the Fall Semester of 2009, more than 20 families joined the TrueBlue School program for Riverwood.  Georgia Natural Gas has already sent a donation to the Riverwood Foundation for more than $200.  What a great program and an easy way to support Riverwood.  Click "Read More..." for more details

The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia's outstanding high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development.

Parents:  BE CAREFUL if you receive a phone call offering SAT Preparation Course DVDs.  A Riverwood parent recently received a very aggressive and persuasive sales pitch offering a one month trial of SAT preparation dvds.

Mealpay Plus begins January 1, 2010   Fulton County Schools is offering parents an opportunity to pay for meals using a new online service:  Mealpay Plus.

Purchase B. Green T-shirts and help deserving students receive refurbished computers.  The t-shirts are 100% organic and go to fund the unique computer recycling program created by HM Solutions of Atlanta.  The B. Green Program has already provided six Riverwood students with desktop computers this year.   Continued.....

The PTSA-published directories were given out during school in Advisement on Friday, October 30 and Friday, November 6.  Only dues-paying members of the PTSA receive directories.

For the fourth year in a row, Riverwood is in the list of the top ten public high schools in the state of Georgia for the 2008-2009 school year. Riverwood is the #1 high school in Fulton County, #5 in the state of Georgia, and #223 in the nation according to Newsweek magazine.

The 2008-2009 Riverwood Raiders ranked #6 in the state in the Directors Cub standings.  Capturing two state runner up titles, four individual state championships and five region championships, the Raiders dominated in athletic competition.
