Mary Beth van der Hoek leads a very active Theatre Deparment.  Ms. van der Hoek has her M.F.A. in theatre education and came to Riverwood in 2003.   The program has grown in numbers every year and now offers four theatrical performances yearly.

In addition, four levels of drama classes are offered for fine arts credit.
Ms. V sponsors the International Thespian club which attends the Georgia State Thespian Conference at Columbus State University every February.

The theatre department also boasts a very active and supportive booster club (PABA).

Clubs

INTERNATIONAL THESPIAN SOCIETY - Those students who display excellence in and a dedication to the theatre arts are invited to become members of the International Thespian Society. The International Thespian Society affords students the opportunity to attend the Georgia Thespian Conference held each February in order to further explore their particular areas of interest in theatre. Once a student becomes a Thespian, or "student of theatre," they remain a Thespian for life. It is an honor and a privilege to be invited to join.

RIVERWOOD PLAYERS - The aim of the Riverwood Players is to better inform the community of our productions, to provide a place for those students interested in the theatre arts to come for more information, to prepare students for professional theatre, and to use our talents and gifts to entertain or help those in need. We attend outside productions and we bring in guest artists for further enrichment.
