Head Coach Michael Mezzio is in his fourth year as the Raiders Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach. Coach Mezzio teaches Economics and International Affairs and has been coaching over 15 years. His coaching experience began in 1994 at Turner Middle School where he coached football, basketball and track for five years. Coach Mezzio coached football, basketball, Varsity baseball and Varsity girls basketball at Harper-Archer High School from 1999-2002. He spent five years at Douglass High School coaching Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball and Track before coming to Riverwood in 2006. Coach Mezzio is from Newburgh, New York and graduated from the University of Scranton with a BS in Economics and Finance. He has a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Clark Atlanta University. Coach Mezzio played soccer and basketball in high school and is married to Julie Wyrick Mezzio. They have two daughters, Elle and Sofia.
Assistant Varsity Coach Anthony Brodie joins the Riverwood Coaching Staff as a community coach for the 2009-2010 season. A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Coach Brodie graduated from North Carolina Central University with a B.S. in Physical Education. He played basketball at Cary High School, St. Paul's College, and at North Carolina Central University. His coaching career began in Durham, North Carolina as head coach of the 8th Grade Boys team at Githens Middle School. At Jordan High School, he was the Varsity Assistant Coach and the JV Head Coach. After moving to Georgia, Coach Brodie has been involved with the Georgia Heat as Head Coach, the Head Coach of the Sandtown Rec League 12U and 10U teams, and served as the Colonial Hills Boys Varsity Assistant. Most recently, Coach Brodie was the Girls Varsity Assistant Coach at Banneker High School. He has also served as a Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA League director. Coach Brodie and his wife Tami have two daughters, Alexandria and Ava.
JV Boys Head Coach Buck Jenkins is in his second year as the JV Boys Basketball Head Coach. Coach Jenkins is a Paraprofessional for Interrelated Resources. He graduated from Columbia University in New York with a BA in Political Science and also played basketball for Columbia where he holds the record as the All Time Leading Scorer. Jenkins was also All Ivy League for three years; Player of the Year in 1993; All East Coast in 1993; Honorable Mention All America in 1993; and is a member of the Columbia Athletics Hall of Fame. After graduating from Columbia University, Coach Jenkins played professional basketball in Europe for three years. Coach Jenkins was an assistant men's basketball coach at Columbia University for two years, and was the Head Basketball Coach and Executive Director at Inner Strength, Inc. for seven years. Coach Jenkins is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Coach Jenkins is married to Lydia Francis-Jenkins and they have two children, Elijah and Nailah.
Freshman Head Coach Greg Goodwin joins the Riverwood Coaching Staff as a community coach for the 2009-2010 season. A native of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, Coach Goodwin graduated with a B.S. from the Florida Institute of Technology, where he earned four letters as a Cross Country runner and won two Sunshine State Conference titles. He coached Girls Basketball at the High School level for five years -- three of them at The Galloway School. Most recently, Coach Goodwin was Head Assistant Coach at Oxford College of Emory University for nine years. Goodwin played a major role in developing the 12 year old program as well as some of the most successful teams in that school’s history: twice advancing to the NJCAA’s Sweet Sixteen, two NJCAA Region Championships, developed four NJCAA All Americans, and coincided with a school best 22-10 record and a spot in the NJCAA’s top ten in 2004-2005.
