Congratulations to the Riverwood team for finishing FIRST in the 5AAA AREA TRADITIONAL WRESTLING TOURNAMENT. Five Raider wrestlers finished first in their weight class: Noah Niederhoffer (112 lbs), Louis Galanti (130), Ryan Weinstein (140), Hamilton Stockton (145) and Lee Perlis (152). Head Coach, Rick McKeone has coached wrestling for over 30 years. As the Head Wrestling Coach for the Raiders, Coach McKeone has put together a winning program. Coach McKeone is also the Raiders Head Softball Coach and an Assistant Baseball Coach. Coaching is clearly what Coach McKeone loves to do. His coaching experience includes 34 years wrestling; 31 years football; 21 years baseball; 4 years softball; 5 years track and 3 years golf. Coach McKeone is from Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Missouri State with a BS in Education and a Master's degree from Central Missouri State. In high school, Coach McKeone played football, baseball and ran track for four years and wrestled for three years. In college, Coach McKeone wrestled for four years. Married over 27 years to wife Sue, Coach McKeone credits his family for being supportive of his coaching career and for allowing his coaching to come before his family at times. Coach McKeone says that he is "blessed with a family that sees the importance of athletics and how it builds character for life. They have learned that through HARD WORK, DEDICATION, COMMITMENT, and PERSEVERANCE that they can be a success. These are the same attributes I extend to my athletes."
Assistant Wrestling Coach, John MacDonald has been at Riverwood for nine years. Currently Coach MacDonald is an Assistant Wrestling Coach and is the Head Coach for Boy's Lacrosse. Coach MacDonald was also the Head Coach for the Boys Varsity Soccer team for five years. He teaches US History. His hometown is York, Maine where he played football and was on the track & field team for four years and wrestled for two years. Coach MacDonald also played ice hockey for six years. He graduated from the University of Maine with a BA in History and he participated in the ROTC program. He entered the army after college as a commissioned officer and his first duty station was Ft. Benning, GA. While stationed in Ft. Benning, he received his Master's Degree in International Relations from Troy State University. His military career landed him in an infantry division; he was an Army Ranger and jump master. Coach MacDonald met his wife, Debbie, at Ft. Benning while he was an instructor for a Ranger Training Battalion. After leaving active duty, Coach MacDonald transferred to an active reserve unit and pursued his dream of becoming a teacher. He received his doctorate degree from Walden University in 2003. Many will recognize Coach MacDonald as Riverwood's Iraqi War Veteran. Coach MacDonald was called into active duty in 2006 and served in the Iraqi War. Riverwood was honored to have Coach MacDonald return to teaching in the Fall of 2007.
